“Green On Blue” Killings On The Rise…
Afghan forces killed three NATO soldiers

Afghan security forces and police killed three NATO soldiers in two separate incidents in Afghanistan on Monday. The latest “green on blue” attacks came as the top commander of the U.S.-led mission in Afghanistan wrapped up a visit to Washington during which he sought to bolster confidence in the mission that has been shattered by a series of recent attacks, including the March 11 shooting rampage by a U.S. soldier that killed 17 Afghan civilians.
Two British soldiers “were gunned down by an Afghan soldier in front of the main gate of a joint civilian-military base in southern Afghanistan,” the Associated Press reported Monday
Marine Gen. John Allen, the top commander of the mission in Afghanistan, speaking in Washington Monday, sought to downplay concern over the “green on blue” attacks (or those by Afghan security personnel), calling the incidents unfortunate but not unexpected. “On any occasion where you’re dealing with an insurgency and where you’re also growing an indigenous force … the enemy’s going to do all that they can to disrupt … counterinsurgency operations,” he told reporters at the Pentagon Monday.
But the spike in such attacks in recent weeks has raised alarm about the feasibility of a key element of the Obama administration’s exit strategy for Afghanistan. Under a transition plan agreed to by President Barack Obama and NATO allies, U.S.-led forces plan to train some 350,000 Afghan army soldiers and police, and transition security responsibility to them in phases, culminating with the withdrawal of international forces from the country by the end of 2014.
The deaths Wednesday brought the total number of NATO service members killed by Afghan security forces and police to 16, and eight of those were American. An Associated Press tally Monday said that Afghan troops or police have killed 80 NATO service members since 2007, and 80 percent of those deaths have been in the past two years.
The U.S. military late last week formally charged Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales with 17 counts of premeditated murder along with others charges for the March 11 shooting incident that killed 17 Afghan civilians, including a pregnant woman and her unborn baby. Bales’ wife, Karilyn, said Monday that her husband loves children, and she finds the crimes he’s accused of “unbelievable,” including that he killed nine children. “He would not do that,” she told NBC’s Today Show.

President Obama Asks Medvedev for ‘Space’ on Missile Defense – ‘After My Election I Have More Flexibility’

When asked to explain what President Obama meant, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications Ben Rhodes told ABC News that there is room for the U.S. and Russia to reach an accommodation, but “there is a lot of rhetoric around this issue – there always is – in both countries.

A senior administration official tells ABC News: “this is a political year in which the Russians just had an election, we’re about to have a presidential and congressional elections – this is not the kind of year in which we’re going to resolve incredibly complicated issue like this. Witness counters Trayvon Martin media narrative…
Maybe George Zimmerman did act in self-defense when he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, whose death Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida, has been the focus of a media and political circus that even included Barack Obama weighing in this week.
An eyewitness to the incident told police Martin was beating Zimmerman before he shot him.

“Targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business,” he claimed from his Rainbow Push office in Chicago, promising “”No justice, no peace. The indifference to this kind of pain is just going to intensify the protests.”

During a trip through Colorado in December of last year, President Obama spoke of his intention to implement his economic policies with or without the approval of Congress. Said Obama, “And where Congress is not willing to act, we’re going to go ahead and do it ourselves.” It now appears that such a mindset applies not only to economic matters but to the distribution of foreign aid as well–in particular, foreign military aid for the Muslim Brotherhood, who now hold the reigns in Egypt.
Congress has restricted and, in fact, halted military aid to Egypt until and “unless the State Department certifies that Egypt is making progress on basic freedoms and human rights.” After all, Christians and other practitioners of non-Islamic religions have had a tough go of it there. And of course, many Egyptian officials harbor such hatred toward the U.S. that one of the candidates for the Egyptian presidency has openly referred to America as the “infidel country” in media interviews.
Nevertheless, the news breaking now is that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will soon announce that President Obama will “resume funding for Egypt’s military, despite Congressional restrictions and objections from human rights and democracy advocates.”…(Con’t)

Teachers’ Union Seeks to Drive Teach for America Teachers out of Seattle Public Schools

Third grader Enrique (not his real name) eagerly describes his Teach for America teacher like this: “He let us borrow bigger books.” “I am learning English now.” “My goal is to be at fourth grade in reading by the end of the year.”
Teach for America (TFA) is a nationally-recognized training program that provides highly motivated, talented teachers to schools nationwide, especially in low-income inner city communities. TFA graduates come from highly respected colleges, including Harvard, Stanford, Princeton and the University of Washington. Studies show their students typically make more progress in reading and math compared to students of other teachers, including veteran and certified instructors.
TFA educators set high goals for their students: a clear focus on math and science, 40 minutes of reading every night, and a desire to graduate and go on to college. In Seattle and other cities TFA is helping children raise their sights and reach for the stars.
Not everyone is happy, however. The teachers’ union sees opening schools to TFA graduates as a threat to their power within the system. Union executives did not want TFA in Seattle in the first place, and now they are doing everything they can to drive these young instructors out of local classrooms.
The issue will be decided March 21st (tomorrow), when Seattle School Board members will vote whether to accede to the union and bar TFA teachers from city schools, or allow them to continue educating Seattle children.
How did this happen? How did we as a community get to a point where our own School Board may end up ousting some of the best-qualified teachers in the country where they are most needed? In October 2010, the Board invited TFA to provide trained instructors for some of the most-needy schools. In response, six young TFA teachers have been working in Seattle classrooms for nearly a year, impressing administrators and parents with their energy, ability and professionalism. Though demanding, they are popular with students, and set high expectations for what they believe kids can achieve.
Then the School Board changed. In the 2011 election the teachers’ union backed two candidates, Marty McLaren and Sharon Peaslee, giving thousands of dollars to their political campaigns. These candidates won, and in what some see as payback, they are now spearheading the union drive to oust TFA from Seattle schools.
There’s more. The Seattle Times reports union-inspired activists are harassing TFA teachers at Aki Kurose Middle School and South Shore K-8, hoping to get them to quit. Their personal information has been posted online. One teacher’s home was burglarized.
TFA may be stirring up the union in Seattle, but the program is considered routine in other cities. Since 1990, nearly 33,000 TFA-trained instructors have taught more than three million students. Today, 9,000 of them educate over 600,000 students in 32 states and the District of Columbia.
The program is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, but if the ban is imposed the Seattle-based charity would find it can fund TFA educators in Philadelphia or Boston, but not at John Hay Elementary up the street from their headquarters.
Over 3,000 University of Washington graduates apply to TFA each year. If the ban is imposed these U.W. grads would find they are barred from teaching at schools in their own city.
If Seattle bans Teach for America it is not the adults who will suffer. TFA teachers will just move to schools in other cities. The real harm from this reactionary and mean-spirited campaign will fall on kids like Enrique, all because some grown-ups think protecting their privileged status is more important than helping children learn.
Citing our research, today The Seattle Times editorial board called upon the Seattle School Board to reject a motion banning Teach for America teachers in Seattle’s schools.

Gingrich Says De Niro’s ‘White First Lady’ Crack Is ‘Inexcusable’
SHREVEPORT, La. – Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich called on President Obama to apologize for comments made by actor Robert De Niro at a fundraiser supporting the president.
“What De Niro said last night was inexcusable and the president should apologize for him. It was at an Obama fundraiser, it is exactly wrong,” Gingrich said, referring to a joke made by De Niro about the potential Republican first ladies.
De Niro told a crowd of about 90 people that it was “too soon” for a white first lady. The comment was made Monday night at a reception in New York City that was hosted by De Niro and his wife, and attended by First Lady Michelle Obama.
“Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white First Lady?” De Niro asked, according to a pool report from the fundraiser.
The report said the crowd roared and someone yelled “No!” as De Niro asked, “Too soon, right?”
The White House today agreed with Gingrich. “We believe the joke was inappropriate,” said Olivia Alair, Michelle Obama’s press secretary.
Gingrich said the comments made by De Niro divide the country and “if people on the left want to talk about radio talk show hosts, then everybody in the country ought to hold the president accountable when somebody at his event says something as utterly, totally unacceptable as Robert De Niro said last night,” Gingrich said.
Gingrich said the president should hold De Niro accountable for the comments.
“On behalf of both my wife, and on behalf of Karen Santorum and on behalf of Ann Romney and that is I think Robert De Niro is wrong. I think the country is ready for a new first lady and he doesn’t have to describe it in racial terms,” Gingrich said.
ABC News reported yesterday that tickets started at $5,000 and included a photo with with Obama and a cocktail. The fundraiser charged $25,000 to mingle with the first lady.
The host committee included Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Bassett, Star Jones, Tina Knowles, Tonya Lewis Lee, Alfre Woodard, Lynn Whitfield, Lisa Ellis and Peg Alston.
The proceeds from Monday’s event benefitted the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising account that funnels cash to both the Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee.

Begich-Manchin Has One Purpose:
To keep the Senate Gavel in the hands of Harry Reid Your e-mails have turned the Senate around in the battle to protect “constitutional carry” states in federal reciprocity legislation.
First of all, please realize the reason we’re fighting so strenuously for the Thune-Vitter language. At stake in this fight is the right of Americans to carry concealed weapons from state to state WITHOUT being registered … WITHOUT getting a permit or license … and WITHOUT being registered like sex offenders.
The Thune-Vitter language will guarantee your right — if you live in a “constitutional carry” state — to freely carry firearms as protected by the Second Amendment.
But make no mistake about it: The ONLY reason for the Begich-Manchin-Baucus bill -– sponsored by three anti-gun Democrats –- is to keep the Senate gavel in Harry Reid’s hands.
S. 2188 would do this by allowing anti-gun Democrats to pretend to care about the Second Amendment, while pushing legislation which would deter additional states from passing “constitutional carry” legislation.
Think about it: Both Begich and Manchin HAVE YET TO CAST A PRO-GUN VOTE during this Congress!
Manchin has NEVER cast a pro-gun vote while he’s been in the Senate. And Begich has cast anti-gun votes 82% of the time since joining the Senate in 2009. Plus, he is a former member of the anti-gun Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which is headed by the extremist New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The other Democrat on S. 2188, Montana Sen. Max Baucus, has a D- rating with GOA.
So why would we trust these anti-gun Senators to do the right thing on gun legislation? The answer is: “We shouldn’t!”
S. 2188 is just an attempt to get cover for their abysmal Second Amendment voting records. Consider this:
* They didn’t vote our way when we urged them to vote against Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
* They didn’t vote with us when we pleaded with them to oppose the anti-gun ObamaCare legislation, which enables the BATFE and FBI to troll through the health care database for gun owners who would be barred from exercising their Second Amendment rights because of their medical information. Nor did they vote our way when we asked them to support a repeal of this obnoxious legislation last year.
* And remember the DISCLOSE Act from a couple of years ago? Begich and Baucus voted to place severe and unconstitutional limits on GOA’s ability to hold individual congressmen accountable in the weeks leading up to an election. (Manchin wasn’t in the Senate yet.)
* They also opposed a repeal of the Veterans Disarmament Act — legislation that has legalized a practice (begun by Bill Clinton) which has disarmed more than 150,000 military veterans for ailments like PTSD.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. These anti-gun, compromising Senators have stabbed us in the back repeatedly. Although now that they’ve turned off a good part of their electorate, they are trying to appear pro-gun.
But they can’t even claim they’re engaged in compromise to help this legislation pass muster, because the much stronger Thune language ALREADY RECEIVED AN OVERWHELMING VOTE MARGIN in 2009!!!
And because of the pro-gun gains made in the 2010 elections, there should be more than 62 Senators who will support the Thune language — which means we can easily overcome a filibuster.
This just seems like a bald-faced attempt to keep Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in power. And let’s face it, when Reid’s running the Senate, our liberties are in danger. (Consider just some of the anti-gun votes listed above that Senator Reid has pushed.)
One more thing: The Begich-Manchin bill will discourage states from enacting “constitutional carry” legislation.
After all, if activists in states considering “constitutional carry” believe they will have to get a license anyway –- because of this enormous “carrot” the anti-gun Democrats are holding out for them -– what incentive do they have to walk the halls of the state capitol, to call their legislators and testify in favor of “constitutional carry.”
The answer is: “None.”
As we write this, the Thune-Vitter bill already has 17 sponsors and cosponsors. The anti-gun Begich-Manchin bill is stuck at three anti-gun Democrats.
But we need to keep the pressure on.
ACTION: Contact your Senators. Urge them to support the Thune-Vitter firearms reciprocity bill and oppose the Begich-Manchin anti-gun bill.
