Still Believe “Teachers” Care About Our Children??? THINK AGAIN.

March 21, 2012 1 comment

(Hat-tip Peggy H. for the forward. Thanks Peggy)

“When school children start paying union dues, that ‘s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.”
 ~Albert Shanker

[TWG Note: Of course, the so-called “teachers” can’t stand anyone getting in the way of their efforts to destroy our children’s minds.  WHY are parents allowing this?  BECAUSE THEY DON’T GIVE A DAMN. THAT’s WHY. If they actually GAVE A DAMN, they would fire each and every one of those so-called “teachers” and bring them to trial.]

Teachers’ Union Seeks to Drive Teach for America Teachers out of Seattle Public Schools

By Liv Finne
Director, WPC’s Center for Education

Third grader Enrique (not his real name) eagerly describes his Teach for America teacher like this: “He let us borrow bigger books.” “I am learning English now.” “My goal is to be at fourth grade in reading by the end of the year.”

Teach for America (TFA) is a nationally-recognized training program that provides highly motivated, talented teachers to schools nationwide, especially in low-income inner city communities. TFA graduates come from highly respected colleges, including Harvard, Stanford, Princeton and the University of Washington. Studies show their students typically make more progress in reading and math compared to students of other teachers, including veteran and certified instructors.

TFA educators set high goals for their students: a clear focus on math and science, 40 minutes of reading every night, and a desire to graduate and go on to college. In Seattle and other cities TFA is helping children raise their sights and reach for the stars.

Not everyone is happy, however. The teachers’ union sees opening schools to TFA graduates as a threat to their power within the system.  Union executives did not want TFA in Seattle in the first place, and now they are doing everything they can to drive these young instructors out of local classrooms.

The issue will be decided March 21st (tomorrow), when Seattle School Board members will vote whether to accede to the union and bar TFA teachers from city schools, or allow them to continue educating Seattle children.

How did this happen? How did we as a community get to a point where our own School Board may end up ousting some of the best-qualified teachers in the country where they are most needed? In October 2010, the Board invited TFA to provide trained instructors for some of the most-needy schools. In response, six young TFA teachers have been working in Seattle classrooms for nearly a year, impressing administrators and parents with their energy, ability and professionalism. Though demanding, they are popular with students, and set high expectations for what they believe kids can achieve.

Then the School Board changed. In the 2011 election the teachers’ union backed two candidates, Marty McLaren and Sharon Peaslee, giving thousands of dollars to their political campaigns. These candidates won, and in what some see as payback, they are now spearheading the union drive to oust TFA from Seattle schools.

There’s more. The Seattle Times reports union-inspired activists are harassing TFA teachers at Aki Kurose Middle School and South Shore K-8, hoping to get them to quit. Their personal information has been posted online.  One teacher’s home was burglarized.

TFA may be stirring up the union in Seattle, but the program is considered routine in other cities. Since 1990, nearly 33,000 TFA-trained instructors have taught more than three million students. Today, 9,000 of them educate over 600,000 students in 32 states and the District of Columbia.

The program is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, but if the ban is imposed the Seattle-based charity would find it can fund TFA educators in Philadelphia or Boston, but not at John Hay Elementary up the street from their headquarters.

Over 3,000 University of Washington graduates apply to TFA each year. If the ban is imposed these U.W. grads would find they are barred from teaching at schools in their own city.

If Seattle bans Teach for America it is not the adults who will suffer. TFA teachers will just move to schools in other cities. The real harm from this reactionary and mean-spirited campaign will fall on kids like Enrique, all because some grown-ups think protecting their privileged status is more important than helping children learn.

Citing our research, today The Seattle Times editorial board called upon the Seattle School Board to reject a motion banning Teach for America teachers in Seattle’s schools.

“They’ll Be Howling In Washington State”

As the Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission prepares to meet this Thursday to consider a recommended wolf conservation and management plan, a new controversy has erupted in Colville, where a veteran big game guide and outfitter is raising the alarm about a possible recent attack that left at least two dogs dead and a neighborhood on edge.

Washington State Patrol On Apparent Fishing Expedition

March 21, 2011 1 comment

ALERT FROM NRA-ILA

Please Contact Your Legislators Today!

The National Rifle Association has learned that the Washington State Patrol (WSP) has sent a letter, apparently to every firearms dealer in the state of Washington, as part of an investigation into “a missing/stolen AR-15.”  The WSP has requested an incredible amount of information regarding dealer’s sales and acquisitions of AR-15’s and lower receivers over the last nine months.  They want names, dates of births, addresses and more… from the past nine months!  A statewide search through a mountain of information for ONE missing/stolen AR-15?

It seems preposterous to the NRA that the WSP would conceivably request this massive amount of sensitive data, in a search for ONE AR-15!  It is the NRA’s view that there must be more to this story, a lot more.  The NRA has placed two phone calls into the WSP today in search of clarifying information but has yet to receive any response on the matter.  The NRA has also followed up with a letter of inquiry which notes that dealers are under no obligation to comply with the request.

We will keep our members apprised of any information that is forthcoming from the WSP.  In the meantime, NRA suggests that you contact your State Legislators and let them know about this far-reaching and overly-broad request of firearm dealers by the state law enforcement agency.  Ask your legislators to contact the WSP in an effort to find out what is going on in this case.  You may contact your state Representative or state Senator by clicking here. If you don’t know who your elected officials are you may look them up here.

Also, please contact Governor Chris Gregoire, let her know about the requests currently being asked of Washington’s firearms dealers by the WSP and urge her to find out what is going on in this case. You can contact the Governor by clicking here.

Patty Murray: Stupidest Person in America

September 29, 2010 Leave a comment

[She’s got a nice shiny pic on her site posing with the “National Peoples Congress”. Of course, I’m looking into that diabolical group as well, but one of the individuals (out of 5) she’s standing with is Senator Roland Burris, who we all know is a crook.

Norm Dicks and Patty Murray have been embroiled in an FBI investigation for taking hefty donations from a defense lobbying firm that exchanged political contributions for earmarks with more than 100 federal lawmakers. Dicks pushed for nine earmarks worth $20 million for PMA clients in the last few years. In return, he got $84,000 in contributions from PMA and authorities say some of the money came from made-up sources to skirt campaign finance laws.

The Virginia-based lobbying firm, PMA Group, was raided by the FBI and remains under federal investigation for its shady practices and profitable connections in the U.S. Congress. Founded by a former aide to Pennsylvania Representative John Murtha, PMA specializes in getting clients hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks from the veteran legislator who chairs the powerful Defense Appropriations Committee.

Murray, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, requested a pair of earmarks worth nearly $5 million for PMA clients last year. She got $26,000 in PMA donations that we know of. I’m sure there’s more to uncover in this shady deal. I’m busy.

John Albaugh, a longtime senior staff member to Oklahoma Representative Ernest Istook, pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy for accepting gifts, dinners, drinks, thousands of dollars worth of sporting event and concert tickets and campaign contributions from Abramoff who was seeking specific transportation legislation from Congress. Albaugh faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Abramoff pleaded guilty in 2006 to showering lawmakers and members of their staff with upscale European vacations, sports and entertainment tickets, expensive meals and other pricey gifts in exchange for special favors. Among those busted for accepting bribes from Abramoff is Patty Murray for a cool $41,000, which she has, as far as I know, refused to return.

Even Wolf Blitzer and CNN were “picking” on Senator Murray for taking $10,000 in campaign contributions from the executives of Infinia Corp who she earmarked 3 million dollars for in the defense budget…..

Sort of reminds you of the Guardian Marine fiasco and the helmet mounted heads-up display she earmarked for after receiving contributions as well. Those were 17 million and 6 million respectively. You remember those from the Front Line Special on earmarks, don’t you? Guardian built 4 boats that nobody requested or wanted and they ended up getting sold for a dollar. The helmet displays lost the ARMY test trials and Patty got the contract awarded to them anyway and they sit in a warehouse, unused and unauthorized to be used. It appears Patty’s campaign warchest is built on contibutions from daddy war bucks.

Bill Moyers, in a Front Line piece, and CNN with Wolf Blitzer just happened across three instances where Senator Murray was given large sums of campaign contributions in exchange for earmarks worth in excess of 26 Million dollars and they are “picking on her” and “strictly partisan”? Hell, they didn’t even talk about the donations from the tribes she took from Jack Abramoff and then refused to return.

Patty’s number one donor category is the trial lawyers. That should say it all. But it doesn’t. She was, at one point, rated the #1 liberal in Congress.

According to Seattle Weekly

“she even bested Stevens in fiscal year 2008 (Oct. 2007-Sept. 2008), bringing home more than $1.3 billion in earmarks–a total surpassed in the Senate only by New York Sens. Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer, according to the D.C.-based database Legistorm.com”

“Murray was one of the few Democrats to speak on Stevens’ behalf during a tribute marking his last day in the Senate. She was one of fewer still to publicly defend his infamous “bridge to nowhere” in 2005, threatening her colleagues on the Senate floor that a vote against it would mean a grim future for their own projects.”

“In 2004, as part of its annual “Best and Worst of Congress” edition, D.C.-based Washingtonian Magazine gave her first place in the “No Rocket Scientist” category”

Several individuals have tried to get her staff to investigate OSHA on an scandal that affects the health and safety of millions. Murray was the senior member of the Dept of Labor Oversight Committee at the time. Murray’s staffers were very excited about the issue, and turned ice cold when they found they couldn’t point the blame at Bush, but rather that the issue started during Clinton’s term. After that, they wouldn’t return calls or correspondence, and the problem remains today.

We’ve got work to do to uncover exactly what Murray’s been up to “on our behalf”, but I intend to get to the bottom of every last tidbit. WELL BEFORE the November 2010 elections.

She’d best start polishing up her resume and digging her tennyrunners outta the dark crevices of her closet. I hope she enjoys standing in the employment lines with the rest of us lowly peasants.]

Patty Murray: Stupidest person in America

© 2010

No liberal has standing to call any Republican stupid as long as Patty Murray remains in the U.S. Senate.

Soon after being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992, Murray went on a radio show and said:

“When I was growing up, the big fear in my life was the nuclear war. I remember second- and third-grade teachers giving us skills to deal with it, if that big alarm goes off, which was ‘Hide under your desk.’ Would that do any good? I don’t know. But as a child, that gives you a feeling there’s something to do beyond panic. Today the biggest fear our kids live with is whether … the kid beside them has a gun. We have to give them skills so they feel confident to deal with it.” CLICK HERE TO READ ANN’S ARTICLE AT WND

Washington State Federal Firearms Freedom Act SB 6475 & HB 2709 RECAP

HB 2709, SB 6475

Washington Firearms Freedom Act Concerning adopting the Washington state firearms freedom act of 2010 and exempting a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition manufactured and retained in Washington from federal regulation under the commerce clause of the Constitution of the United States.

STATUS AS OF JUNE 2, 2010:
2010 REGULAR SESSION
Jan 12 Held on first reading.
Jan 13 First reading, referred to Judiciary. (View Original Bill)
2010 1ST SPECIAL SESSION
Mar 15 By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status.

SPONSORS:
HB 2709 – Representatives Shea, Ross, Kristiansen, Haler, Klippert, Taylor, McCune, Short, Hinkle, Crouse, Dammeier, Parker, Johnson, Angel, Bailey, Orcutt, Roach, Schmick, Fagan, Condotta, Pearson, Warnick, Kretz

SB 6475 – Senators Stevens, Morton, Hewitt, Holmquist, Swecker, Carrell, Schoesler, Delvin, Honeyford, King, Pflug, Roach, Becker

Description prepared by the Washington Secretary of State: This measure would declare that certain personal firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition manufactured in Washington without using any significant parts imported from another state, and that are not removed from Washington are exempt from federal regulation, including any federal registration requirement. The measure would not apply to certain firearms, including firearms that cannot be carried and used by one person, that fire exploding projectiles, or, except shotguns, that discharge multiple projectiles with one trigger pull.

NOTE: Originally introduced and passed in Montana, the FFA declares that any firearms made and retained in-state are beyond the authority of Congress under its constitutional power to regulate commerce among the states.
Following initial Montana enactment, clones of the Firearms Freedom Act have subsequently been enacted in Tennessee, Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota, and other clones have been introduced in the legislatures of twenty-some other states.

The FFA is primarily a Tenth Amendment challenge to the powers of Congress under the commerce clause, with firearms as the object it is a states rights exercise.

Obamacare and Firearms Freedom:  All Americans should be concerned about socialized health care, but gun owners should especially be wary. The ObamaCare legislation in Congress could empower anti-gun bureaucrats to deny medical reimbursements to individuals who engage in supposedly dangerous activities, like owning loaded weapons for self-defense.
Every version of the health care bill in the Senate contains language that will punish Americans who engage in unhealthy lifestyles by allowing insurers to charge them higher insurance premiums. Of course, what constitutes an unhealthy lifestyle is to be defined by legislators.
So dont be surprised if an anti-gun nut like HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius — who vetoed concealed carry legislation as the governor of Kansas — uses this same line of thinking. As the one who will write the ObamaCare regs, Secretary Sebelius can prescribe policies that impose a back-door gun ban on any American who owns dangerous firearms.
After all, insurers already (and routinely) drop homeowners from their policies for owning certain types of guns or for refusing to use trigger locks (that is, for keeping their guns ready for self-defense!). While not all insurers practice this anti-gun behavior, Gun Owners of America has documented that some do — Prudential and State Farm being two of the most well-known.
The good news is that because homeowner insurance is private (and is still subject to the free market) you can go to another company if one drops you. But what are you going to do under nationalized ObamaCare when the regulations written by Secretary Sebelius suspend the applicability of your government-mandated policy because of your gun ownership?
A majority of Americans are right. The ObamaCrats do want to restrict our gun rights, but theyre not necessarily going to do it with a frontal assault.
Thats why its a good thing that the silent majority is now waking up, because a grassroots rebellion is the only thing that is going to be able to prevent all the back-door assaults on our liberties.

Please pass the smelling salts.

Washington SB 6396 Assault Weapons Ban RECAP

Here’s notes on the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban” from Washington State.  Although this Bill is napping until next session, it WILL appear again during next session, and it IS lurking at all states and at the Federal level.  The issues remain the same, so please refer to this when fighting ANY so-called “Assault Weapons Ban”, which will continue across this country, IN PERPETUITY.

SB 6396

Assault weapons, banning the sale of http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=6396&year=2009

Sponsors: Senators Kline, Fairley, Kohl-Welles, McDermott

A group of four State Senators has introduced Senate Bill 6396, legislation that would bring California-style gun-control to the Northwest and ultimately ban many semi-automatic firearms commonly owned by Washingtonians.

This legislation would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them “assault weapons”) and ammunition magazines. SB6396 affects every firearm modified to conform with the now-extinct Clinton Gun-Ban plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever.

Introduced by Sen. Adam Kline, (D-Seattle) on January 13, 2010, prohibits the selling and purchasing of assault weapons. Exceptions to the rule include manufacturing assault weapons for law enforcement, owning an assault weapon that is incapable of shooting, and owning a weapon prior to the date of this legislation. If the weapon was purchased prior to the date of legislation, then it must be securely and safely stored on the owners property. Breaking this law would count as a level 3 crime and be punishable for between 3 months and 5 years in jail.

Seventy million gun owners did not break the law. Over 99 percent of gun owners are law abiding citizens. This bill is unconstitutional, arbitrary, and will not reduce crime. Rather, it will divert law enforcement resources. There are many definitional problems within the bill. You either need to ban all semiautomatic weapons or none of them. You cannot carve out a subset. Making a weapon that has nine rounds lawful and one with 11 rounds unlawful is totally arbitrary. Furthermore, some of the attachments included in the definition of assault weapons are merely cosmetic and have nothing to do with how lethal the weapon is. This bill will merely cause confusion and increase sales of assault weapons. The person behind the firearm is what is wicked and not the firearm. We need education in this area and not legislation.

Post Hearing Note:
Sen. Adam Kline’s quest to ban so called assault pistols and rifles ran into a human wall of opposition during the hearing in his committee. Gun rights activists were outraged, packing the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Senate Bill 6396; a show of hands revealed that about 99 percent of attendees opposed the bill.

STATUS AS OF MAY 29, 2010

* Referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 13, 2010.
* Jan 26 Public hearing in the Senate Committee on Judiciary at 10:00 AM.
* Mar 15 By resolution, reintroduced and retained in present status.

THIS PIECE OF “LEGISLATION” WILL REAR IT’S UGLY HEAD AGAIN. PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR IT DURING ALL FUTURE LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS.  THIS ISSUE IS BEING PURSUED AT ALL STATE LEVELS AS WELL AS FEDERAL LEVELS. WE MUST BE VIGILANT IN OUR FIGHT AGAINST THIS RELENTLESS ASSAULT ON OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS!

We’re scrambling to get this put together, and if we can gather over 300 people for the SB 6396 Judiciary Committee Hearing in one day, we should be able to have record turnout for this event with one week to gather. No excuses, folks. This is important.

2A rallies from one Washington to the ‘other’ suggest gun owners are growing restless

Monday’s Second Amendment March (SAM) in Washington, D.C. was a huge success compared to the armed gathering at Virginia’s nearby Fort Hunt and Gravelly Point parks, and now gun rights activists in the ‘other’ Washington (I prefer the real Washington) are working hard to match yesterday’s events right here in the Evergreen State.

As many as 2,000 people gathered in the shadow of the Washington Monument, and about 50 at Gravelly Point and Fort Hunt parks in Virginia.

A noon rally at Olympia’s Tivoli Fountain on the Capitol Campus is scheduled this Saturday, April 24. It almost did not happen, when a local coordinator bowed out pretty much without telling anyone. Picking up the ball and running with it like stallions are two Evergreen State gun rights activists, David Del Buono and Jim Beal. Del Buono is known on a state hunting forum as “Adams” and Beal calls himself “DEROS72” on the Open Carry forum. Gun owners owe these two men immeasurable gratitude for pulling this event together; for some people, doing the impossible just takes a little longer.

Washington State Gun Rights and Responsibilities

Washington State Gun Rights and Responsibilities deals with firearms ownership, both the rights and responsibilities for Washington state residents. It contains language from existing Washington State statutes that were in effect at the time it was written. This includes the laws that relate to use of force in self defense, defense of property, and defense of another person. You will also find advice on safe firearms handling, a section on kids and guns, and the general “rules of the road” about owning, carrying, and using firearms, whether for recreation or personal defense.

What’s New in this Edition

  • Open Carry regulations, interpretations, and recommendations
  • Reciprocity with other states
  • “No duty to retreat” in a lethal confrontation

What Reader’s Say about Washington State Gun Rights and Responsibilities

“To write “Washington State Gun Rights and Responsibilities,” Dave has distilled stacks of federal, state, and local regulations, then combined that with his years of hands-on experience in the gun rights arena, and added in his close relationship with the law enforcement community. The result is the definitive text on what you, as a gun owner, and especially as a concealed pistol license holder, MUST know about legal possession and use of guns in Washington State. If you are even thinking about carrying, you need this book….”
